Márketing Digital (publicidad); 27.04.15: anuncios a través de -- Linked-In & Twitter -- social media ads BILINGÜE

“There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.
Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray; 1891.

  1. Linked-In (para PyMEs que quieren entrar el mercado estadounidense);
  3. ‘Pinstagram’ (es decir, Pinterest e Instragram)
0verview. This first-to-last letter in this mini-series on social media advertising continues our discussion how these social net-works are available to small business who do not have the resources available to mount anything like a sophisticated digital marketing campaign. These are the small companies that make up the ‘silent majority’ of Tijuana’s business cultures.

Nevertheless, not having the means for professional help (or qualified professional help) does not need to be a deterrent to these folks since their companies have local markets and a reputation dependent upon word of mouth referrals.

In fact, the biggest deterrent really is the unwillingness to try and to learn something new. In fact, the giant on-line net-works and search engines – giants as they are or dinosaurs they may become – are quite enlightened in their out-reach to small business. Hence, the only reason not to advertise is that the business owner simply does not want to devote the time to doing so.

Specifically, this letter quickly reviews four other social media which have combined billings less than half that of Facebook:
  1. Linked-In (looking north?)
  2. Twitter (smart-phone?)
  3. Pinterest and Instagram (up-&-coming but still small).

  • instituciones académicas que tienen pocos recursos aquí;

Talkin’ Tecno-turkey. True, Tijuana is nowhere near the point of inflection of converting into Tecnojuana. The local and state governments have gone AWOL by hiding behind a history of Mexican sweat-shops. They seem willing to continue exploiting their countrymen for the sake of Sand Diego and their own wealth, jealously preserved. It is not entirely the fault of these leaders in Baja California. After all, they have privileges to preserve. The mix of fear of the unknown and the smug satisfaction of intelligence (inferred from the wealth they did not earn) almost always leads one to migrate toward risk aversion and, eventually, on to risk perversion.  The photo-shopping photo-oppers, by packaging themselves as civic leaders, have languished in risk perversion for a good long time now.

Risk perversion occurs when the fear of looking bad for making any mistake (i.e., for taking a risk that has not panned out any gold) mingles with the craving to be considered something more than one is, no matter how far-fetched that puffed up image may be. This instinct is as old as the first Neanderthal who tried to claim exclusive ownership for inventing fire. Thus, instead of trying to do the back-breaking and hazardous work of establishing the intellectual super-structure of the triple helix, these paragons of paralysis talk big and opt for pushover targets like bobo dolls.

Hence the pioneers of Tecnojuana will have to forge ahead by attracting the outside capital, with a keener eye for value than the local talent (sic), required to build the triple helix of academia, the private sector and, ¿eventually?, a government intent upon doing its duty. To do that, they can avail themselves of the techniques analyzed below.

LINKED-In

Cómo empezar su pubilicidad mediante Linked-In
How To Get Started With LinkedIn Paid Ads
Have you run a campaign on LinkedIn? If not, you are hardly alone. LinkedIn is not a typical social network; but, it isn’t a true content platform, either. LinkedIn is focused on business connections; so, marketers tend to think of it as B2B only. LinkedIn has a much, much smaller audience than Google or Facebook. LinkedIn lacks the integration of professional bid management platforms.

LinkedIn provides great targeting options, including the ability to target by job title, employer, role, skills, and interests. LinkedIn profiles contain more detailed and up-to-date “professional” information compared to what people list on their personal profiles on Facebook, etc. Beyond that, LinkedIn now provides additional value through content with its “Influencers” and “Pulse” efforts. In addition, LinkedIn’s self-service advertising platform has a similar feel to those offered by Google and Facebook.

Whenever I look at a campaign, I ask myself a few key questions (see below).
  1. Do I know the job titles of my target audience? Pinpoint your audience.
  2. Do I know where my target audience works? Get your brand in front of the right people at a company you are trying to sell to.
  3. Does my target audience have unique skills/interests?
  4. Do I know the type of role my target audience holds at a company, or their level of seniority?

How To Create A LinkedIn Ad Campaign
  1. una cuenta de Linked-In;
  2. entendimiento de la gente dirigida;
  3. contenidos de publicidad; y,
  4. un video (si disponible).
To create a campaign, you’ll first need the following:
  • A LinkedIn account
  • Basic understanding of your audience
  • Ad copy
  • Video (optional)
Proceder a la página para iniciar la publicidad de Linked-In (L.I. Ads log-in page) y hacer clic sobre ‘iniciar’ (get started).
Now go to the LinkedIn Ads login page and click on “Get started.”  This will present you with two types of campaign options: (1) Create an ad; (2) Sponsor an update. Sponsored updates are a great way to get your message directly onto a user’s home feed. The offering is comparable to sponsored content on Facebook, and it is a good tool to use to amplify your content.
The case against Linked-In http://www.wordstream.com/blog/ws/2015/03/17/8-reasons-i-hate-linkedin-ads El caso frente a Linked-In
La primera etapa: Formular el anuncio
Se debe estar mirando a este plantilla.
Step 1: Create Your Ad
You should now be looking at the following screen:

En este proceso, se formula el anuncio. Se debe proveer información:
  1. nombre de la campaña;
This is where you create your ad. To do so, you’ll need to fill in a few fields:
  • Campaign Name
  • Ad Language
  • Media Type:  Select a traditional format or a video ad.
Ad Destination:  This will allow you to link your ad to either a LinkedIn profile page or an external URL. If you are not familiar with the tagging of URLs, there are numerous URL tagging tools

Ad Design:  Create your headline and description. Note that LinkedIn is a bit limited in this regard. You can also add your imagery here. Make sure you carefully inspect the ad preview to ensure that the image you used is visible and eye-catching.

Ad Variations:  LinkedIn allows you to create multiple variations of ads. Note that the choice of location does not affect the price — it costs just as much to send traffic to external pages as it does to send it to internal pages. Question-style headlines get better engagement than statement headlines.

To give you an idea of what a completed ad looks like, I created one to promote my latest article on Marketing Land, Analytics: A Beginner’s Guide To Data Visualization. I also created a variation so I would be able to test different headlines and images.

Step 2: Targeting
LinkedIn allows you to go to the next level. Below is the audience screen that allows you to precisely target and evaluate your target audience:

This screen has a lot of depth and advanced options that will allow you to target your audience precisely. On LinkedIn, audience size is the number of profiles matching the criteria you have. So, while you might have 2 million registered Math Professors, they might only log in once a month vs. a marketing or IT person who logs in daily.

For example, as I define the location for our sample campaign (United States) and the skills (Tableau, Spotfire, or Data Visualization), LinkedIn tells me that I have 28,793 possible users to show my ad to. If you feel that your audience size is getting too small, pay attention to LinkedIn’s suggested options…to Google’s keyword recommendations. Keep in mind that the more granular you go with your audience design, the better your ROI will be.

….Another valuable aspect of a LinkedIn campaign [is] the ability to turn on “Lead Collection.” This feature allows users who engaged with your ad to send you their contact info and ask to be contacted. It is very similar to a contact form approach, but is effortless for the user.

La tercera etapa: el presupuesto
Step 3: Budgeting
LinkedIn offers two basic pricing models: CPC (cost-per-click) and CPM (cost per 1,000 impressions). The cost-per-click model has a minimum CPC of $2 — which definitely makes it a higher cost network than Google or Facebook. Personally, I have found that LinkedIn ads are more successful when used for narrow reach efforts. Often, I have 20 campaigns running, each with an audience of 5,000. This way, I can have a highly-targeted audience see a highly-targeted ad, and then land on a highly-targeted landing page. Click-through rates on LinkedIn tend to be much lower than on other sites. In terms of budget, LinkedIn has a minimum daily budget of $10; I recommend having at least enough budget for 100 clicks a day.

La cuarta etapa: emitir su anuncio.
Step 4: Submit Your Ad
The final step in the process is to submit your ad by simply clicking on “Launch Campaign.”

TWITTER

Twitter is an ideal medium for those companies seeking to advertise via smart-phones owing to the 144 character constraint placed on messages. Smaller businesses disposed toward levering this medium include restaurants, pharmacies and mom-&-pop shops for consumers who engage wirelessly and tirelessly. Now: a mock-up of Twitter ad to demonstrate its accessibility to newbies.

In our theoretical Twitter ad, we choose México as the country with the target market, unless and until the marketing reach of the PyMEs extends into the U.S.A. If, however, the SME wants to penetrate the United States but currently has little to no presence up north, Linked-In might prove to be a stronger, if pricey, alternative in view of your ability to join groups and build a network of prospects less intrusively. It is also highly likely that the advert rates for Twitter in México are lower than those in the U.S.A.

The primary objective early on in the Twitter-ad process would be to drive more traffic to your site so you could disseminate information. This would imply a strategy for SMEs of daily tweeting to engage the target audience (e.g., the city population for smart-grid utility consumption). But PyMEs must take extra care not to get the cart before the horse. Launching a Twitter campaign before the market segment desired comes to view itself as an audience with a common need, advertising can be hazardous to your wealth. This mis-match between a pre-mature ‘brand-blitz’ and target awareness can cheapen the incipient name in market.

You should center your efforts upon your primary audience (i.e., prospective and current clients). This focus enables you to consolidate your marketing base and you name in the market. This work will never cease being fundamental.

Twitter permits you to focus your advert appeal through a brand-message linked to the identified pre-purchase behaviors displayed in common by members in the targeted segment.

Twitter Follows Facebook, Adds Purchase-Based Targeting
Nestle's Butterfinger Tested the System Featuring Acxiom and Datalogix Data
It happens on Facebook and now it will happen on Twitter. Twitter unveiled an extension of its relationships with Acxiom and Datalogix it's calling Partner Audiences. The system will let brands target ads on Twitter based on past user purchases or demographic data such as income, plus extending campaigns to users with similar characteristics.

Nestle tried out the product when it launched Butterfinger Cup Minis, aiming ads to candy addicts who buy peanut butter-flavored goodies at grocery and convenience stores, according to a Twitter blog post about the new targeting capability. Facebook launched a similar program two years ago with the same partners, along with Epsilon.

Like that offering, the Twitter system will match its users with people in partner databases using hashed or de-identified email addresses and other data associated with their Twitter accounts. Through Twitter's ad campaign system, advertisers can choose from more than 1,000 audience categories based on Acxiom and Datalogix segments. Consumers are lumped into broad categories according to purchase behavior under headings such as auto, CPG, finance, lifestyles, retail brands and travel.

An advertiser looking to reach CPG product buyers can whittle down the audience to people who have purchased energy drinks or k-cup refills. Twitter users can opt-out from the program by unchecking the box in their privacy settings labeled, "Tailor ads based on information shared by ad partners." Twitter has released a flurry of products in recent months, both on its ad and consumer side.

Although user growth has stalled, the company's ad business is swelling: last quarter, its revenue hit $432 million, a 97% uptick. Still, Twitter may be feeling the heat from its larger peer. A report from Bloomberg this week said Facebook is plotting the building of a mobile-ad exchange that would compete with Twitter's MoPub.

PINTEREST y INSTAGRAM

Paid ‘Influencers’ Undercut Ads on Pinterest
Social Network Plans to Roll Out New Ad Products, Targeting Options This Year
THE WALL STREET JOURNAL: BUSINESS; Shields, Mike y Marshall, Jack
In the past few months, advertisers ranging from Tommy Hilfiger to VH1 to Benjamin Moore started spending marketing dollars to promote their brands on Pinterest. But with a few exceptions, the companies didn’t actually buy any ads on the fast-growing social network, which allows users to “pin” images of their favorite things or places. Instead, they commissioned Pinterest influencers, or “Pinfluencers,” to talk up—or rather pin up—their products to consumers

The company launched its first ad product last year, offering select brands a chance to buy “Promoted Pins,” and recently made that service available to all brands. But some marketers are finding they can reach Pinterest’s audience and accomplish their goals just as effectively by signing up influencers, a potential threat to the company’s growth. In such instances, Pinterest doesn’t get paid. Pinterest’s influencers are individuals—often bloggers—who have been able to cultivate large followings on the social network and are familiar with what resonates with its users.

Joanne Bradford, Pinterest’s head of partnerships, said the social network can build a thriving ad business even as brands tap into influencers on its service—much as YouTube has done. Many advertisers have tapped startup HelloSociety, which represents numerous Pinterest influencers, to execute marketing campaigns on the site. These campaigns can start as low as $15,000 and run as high as a few hundred thousand dollars, a person familiar with the matter said.

VH1 no compró publicidad.
VH1 co-created a series of Pinterest boards featuring 1990s fashion for the show “Hindsight.” VH1 didn’t purchase any Pinterest ads, but in one instance, the network said it had 600,000 followers for an influencer-created pin during a single week, said Tom Chirico, VH1’s vice president of marketing. Staples, Clinique and Nordstrom are among the other brands that have taken the influencer route, but haven’t purchased Pinterest ads.

Sean Ryan, director of social and mobile marketing for J.C. Penney Co., said the retailer has purchased some ads on Pinterest, but noted that, “We often see twice the lift in engagement on a product when we use an influencer on Pinterest.”

Some critics question whether Pinterest has any significant value at all to marketers at the moment. Forrester Research analyst Nate Elliott said marketers haven’t gotten much lift from posting content to the site themselves, and said the nascent ad product has weak targeting capabilities.

5 Contenidos efectivos en Instagram
Five Tricks of the Trade in Instagram

Instagram is one of the fastest growing social net-works in Spain with more than one in four users taking advantage of the net-work. While so simple-looking a médium, Instagram requires elbow grease, especially among larger corporations, to prepare and execute the creation of pictographic content. So what are the leading brands doing to reinforce customer loyalty through Instragram. Here are five (5) techniques.

Infographics, especially of the ‘how-to’ variety. The ability to post several photographs or images simultaneously allows for the possibility of on-line tutorials.

Contests. By attaching hash-tags, an easy thing to do, one can create contest screens quite easily, by asking people to post pictures.

Focussing on what nobody else sees. Behind the scenes visuals of people’s favorite subjects engages users.

Juegos visuales.
Visual play-time. Asking browsers to caption pictures or describe scenes engages their imagination and sparks friendly competition.

One-two punch. Pairing inspiring or entertaining text with stimulating images allows the Company to draw people into stronger interactions of higher quality.
